Forget about Kanye, Its Senator Brownback Who’s Scary
Apparently, I began subscribing to Rolling Stone recently because I just received the January and February issues. (I think my subscription
may be related to a gradeschool fund raiser.) I realize I’m a bit behind on the whole Kanye West as Jesus cover, but what I truly found scary in this issue was the piece on Brownback by Jeff Sharlet. Not only is he a huge
admirer of Edwin Meese (one of my favorite Virginia citizens, founding member of The Heritage Foundation and on the Board of Visitors for George Mason) which explains his fixation with porn, he was a roomate and “Fellow” of Nevada’s own Senator Ensign, and has sponsored such progressive legislation as the broadcast deceny bill, and the Constitution Restoration Act which would strip the Supreme Court of the ability to even hear cases in which citizens protest faith-based abuses of power. This guy literally wants everything privatized, sex within heterosexual marriage only, and women in the home taking care of the children they will be forced to have while their men are out leading the charge against sin.
Seriously, what IS the matter with Kansas? You can read the article here.

[...] Perhaps Senator Brownback likes the ladies to strap on spiked heels and walk on his back. Its a common fetish, and he seems like he might be into self-flagellation. I’m just saying. [...]
[...] Did the minx really expect a different result? I guess not, but there’s always hope that someone might come to their senses and stop pandering to an ever shrinking base to do what is morally right for all isn’t there? Just like Bush, Nevada’s Senator John Ensign is against lifting funding restrictions on human embryonic stem cell research even though those embryos are destroyed by fertility clinics if unused. Is that not wasting a “life” (as defined by Bush and the likes of Ensign, Brownback, and Dobson) as well if that’s your line of thinking? And better yet, although the President has made it clear government should not support stem cell research, its just fine for private industry to acquire those same stem cells and use them for research. Is that not the same “life” that was too precious to be used in research funded by the federal government (but not to precious to be destroyed by fertility clinics)? It actually makes sense that Bush would have no problem turning over those “lives” to private industry for research because he and Congress have repeatedly demonstrated they think its perfectly fine for corporations to operate amorally.
