Tuition Goinnnng Up!

Nevada is raising tuition rates for higher education institutions. Although current tuition rates seem like a bargain when compared to other western states without any other context, there are some other factors the Regents left out of their research. For instance, according to the 2004 Measuring Up: The National Report Card on Higher Education, Nevada is the lowest performing state (that’s in The Union folks) in the proportion of young adults with a high school certificate, and in the likelihood of students enrolling in college by age 19. That report also gave Nevada an F grade for affordability. Its interesting that the regents try to compare Nevada to California–a state with slightly higher tuition rates for undergraduates but with a much higher cost of living (It has the highest affordibility rating on the Measuring Up report). How will increasing undergraduate tuition affect the already low rate at which students enroll in college by age 19? Its definitely going to make an impact. You cant just compare tuition and fee costs out of context. It doesnt make any sense.
