Reno River Festival Update

Its almost that time of year again and I literally can’t wait. Is it too early to get excited? Today is really the first day without some kind of freezing hail, snow, sleet, or rain in what seems like months, but we all know its been good for the snow pack and our future water situation so stop whining already. I guess the newly discovered sun and rising temperatures are making me finally believe spring is here.

The river is rising just in time for the second best event of the year in Reno–the Reno River Festival May 12-14. (Artown still rules, but it also runs for an entire month). They are predicting amazing spring water levels for the festival which means stellar tricks and speed. You can follow the exploits of our resident kayaking king, Jay Kincaid, on his blog which has returned this year (although he could stand to update it more often–even Mr. Kincaid can learn something from the minx).

For me, the best event to watch is the Boatercross which is just what it sounds like. If you caught the newest Olympic event, Snowboard Cross, you have an idea of what its like. It reminds me of the lazy river at Mandalay Bay without all the love in the air. Its fierce competition with boats bumping and paddles knocking. The all day live music and free Harrah’s concert Friday night is also a highlight (especially when the band is Cracker or what about the P-Funk All Stars?–are you listening event planners?)

Did you know the minx decided she must live downtown while attending the first Reno River Festival? That’s when she caught the downtown Reno bug. There is nothing better than being able to grap your lawn chair and mosey on over to Wingfield park all spring and summer for free music and river activities.

Wingfield is a truly wonderful place in the summertime. It’s the reason I decided to live downtown, too.

My question is this: Camper Van Beethoven was just in town right? Now we’re gonna see their alter ego, Cracker?

I didn’t see the CVB show, but I heard they did quite a few Cracker songs such as “take the skinheads bowling” etc. WTF?

Aha, Take the Skinheads Bowling is a CVB song–not a Cracker song. I went to that show by the way–sound was very bad. Cracker has been stellar every single time I’ve seen them. Its a bit incestuous and all but I like it much better when Cracker does CVB songs then the other way around. Fan from way back of both. One of my favorite live groups. The minx believes one can never get enough Cracker.

Hmmm… must agree all around on this one minxer:) Love the tunes, love the culture, love the sun rays and the water!!! peace out!
