Kayaking with the Jacksons!

Well, the river is up and the pros are in town, including my very favorite first family of kayakling, The Jacksons!. No, this is not the singing Jacksons who put the “fun” in dysfunctional, but the boating Jacksons who created the FUN kayak series in boats. Having just bought a Fun, and having a little kayaker who has owned a FUN 1 for a few years now, I can honestly say I like this boat better than anything I have paddled in awhile. I can sit in it comfortably (as a mom hips can be a factor) and move around a river with ease. Surfing is great, but I need some work on my acrobatics before I can offer an opinion. My spouse has been in the All-Star for a few runs and now has one reserved at Reno Mountain Sports. As for the Reno River Festival, most of team Jackson is here. If you spend any time at the whitewater park, you have no doubt watched 13 y/o Dane Jackson doing loops in a hole without a paddle, and EJ and Emily working the holes. And special thanks to Stephen Wright let my spouse borrow his All-Star when I mentioned he wanted to demo one but RMS was out, and to the Jackson family for signing posters for my daughter. She now has a Jackson family Wall!
Now on the more serious side. As a kayaker, we all know the dangers a river has, but Joe Public seems to like flirting with disaster at times. A few weeks ago, I witnessed 3 different Joe saves by kayakers as people ventured into the river without proper PPE (personal protective gear). The River is COLD! It has ROCKS! and the current is STRONG! Please leave the KMART specials at home until the spring snow melt is gone. Parents, small children should not be in the water yet! I love the river as much as anyone, but the danger risk is up so please play accordingly. Hope to see you all at the River festival! GO TEAM JACKSON!

[...] So, what happened while I was gone? I noticed that Kayakmama and Mr. Jerz were kind enough to help keep this site from being a complete void while I was galivanting around the the nation’s capitol. More on that later. The minx appreciates their efforts. [...]

[...] And a local mancake to boot. Reno river rat and resident whitewater hunk Jay Kincaid finally took a picture worthy of his mancakey deliciousness. Is that a kayak on your head Jay, or are you just happy to see me? The caption below this photo on RGJ.com reads: “Local pro kayaker for the team Jackson, Jay Kincaid has won more professional freestyle competitions both nationally and internationally than anyone except Eric Jackson.” [...]

The River Festival should be fantastic this year, and as an added bonus the long-rumored Sierra Tap Room should be open at last.
Yes! The owner swore to me that it would be open on May 1st, but as long as they open this weekend, they should do well.
