Enjoy The Reno River Festival at The Sierra Tap House
The the Reno Whitewater Festival begins officially tomorrow and it should be fabulous. Several world class kayakers will be competing in the invitational freestyle competition and the invitational is always full of surprises. However, the minx’s favorite competition is the boatercross which adds a needed ultimate fighting vibe to the festival. Sometimes kayakers are just too laid back. Which reminds me festival organizers, next year, if you can’t get another band with a national following like Cracker, why not invite Hot Buttered Rum to perform at next year’s festival? They work with the atmosphere of the festival much better than Bad Intent (sorry guys).
The minx must say that if you can’t find a seat on the rocks by the river bank for festival, the next best place to take a load off is the Sierra Tap House–especially since they reformatted the banks fo the Truckee after last year’s flood. (The minx’s favorite riverside rock was disappeared during retrenching and she’s bitter.) Opening night proved to be a mighty enjoyable evening filled with friends I expected to see and many I didn’t. But that’s Reno for you–its not for nothing they call it the Biggest Little City.
The place was packed, the crowd was friendly, and the bagpiping was, well, bagpiping (I must say the bagpiper had lovely knees). They’ve done a great job souping it up–lining the interior walls with bricks and adding a beamed ceiling, which combined, created a nice warm vibe. It sort of reminds me of a pub I used to go to in Alexandria, VA–Tiffany Tavern. They don’t have space for too many outdoor tables, but if you can snag one, you should. The Tap House features Sierra Nevada beers on tap but they do have other choices. Once it was clear they carried my precious Newcastle (if I hear you call it “nukie brown, I will slap you), the minx decided that the Tap House is my new Wefi hangout.
See you there….

[...] Be sure also to check out Myrna the Minx’s post on the fest as well as Yukon Sully’s. The Reno Gazette-Journal also has a story today (includes a River Fest schedule). And don’t forget the City of Reno’s rivercam. [...]
[...] Yes, the minx was the first person to bring it to the public’s attention. However, the more publicity the Sierra Tap House gets, the better. Downtown Makeover even has photos on his site. Imagine! And he knows the owners too, but they’re different than the owners I know. How many owners are there for god’s sake? Anyway, although it can get a little loud when the crowd is large, I do really enjoy the Tap House. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and there are some very appealing bartenders and waiters working there. Hey, don’t give me that look. A minx is entitled to a little eye candy. [...]
[...] Hipster tipster Maresa attended last week’s planning commission meeting and had much to say about the Wingfield Towers project. Among the highlights; the towers will be LEED Silver certified, which means the developers are making a real effort to construct a green building, and as a part of that effort, will provide enough bike parking for 500 bikes (along with 700 or so cars–500 for residents and the rest for retail). The developers have been meeting with the community repeatedly in an effort to build a good relationship. They held a community meeting at the Sierra Tap House a few weeks ago and have made several presentations at the Ward One Advisory Board meetings and the city council. And thanks to their respectful treatment of the Trinity Episcopal Church and its clergyman, the developers have God on their side as long as they don’t touch the church bells. [...]

I was severely disappointed to see a woman there with a hideous panty line showing. But, the granny-ness of them…. It was scary. I don’t know if I can ever go back to the Sierra Tap House, now.
