Lyon County County Regulates Itself, Sort Of

First, Lyon County is raising the brothel privilege fees:

The “quarterly privilege fees” are charged based on the number of rooms the brothel has, whether fewer than 20, 21-40 or 41 or more rooms.

The fee was increased $2,000 across the board, from $16,000 to $18,000 for fewer than 20 rooms, $19,000 to $21,000 for 21-40 rooms and $22,000 to $24,000 for 41-plus rooms.

Board chairman Bob Milz said the county hadn’t increased the brothel fees for years.

Sheriff Sid Smith said the brothels really don’t create that much activity for the sheriff’s deputies as the brothels largely regulate themselves.

Does this sound like trouble to anyone else? Letting the brothels regulate themselves? It makes me think of my oft quoted and favorite Onion article on the subject. Dennis Hoff’s idea of self-regulation is putting clothes on.

And then Dawn Gibbons accused Fernley residents of inbreeding. Perhaps she thinks too many locals are frequenting the brothels?
