Attention Reno Cyclists: Ghost Bike Installation
A Ghost Bike will dedicated to local cyclist, David Pumphrey, what was killed in a car crash this Sunday at 9:15am. Ghost Bikes are bikes painted completely white and locked to a post with a sign that describes the victim and the incident. There are Ghost Bikes all over the world at the sites of fatal bicycle / motor vehicle accidents in an effort to remind driver to share the road with cyclists. Visit the Seattle’s GhostCycle.org for more information on the movement.
There will be a short procession of cyclists behind a pick up truck holding the Ghost Bike riding to the installation site and a short installation ceremony. KOLO TV is planning to cover the event. The whole point is to memorialize our friend and fellow Club member, and more importantly, to raise awareness in the minds of motorists and cyclists of the need to operate our vehicles safely in each other’s presence.
When: Sunday, September 3rd at 9:15am
Where: Starbucks parking lot on the corner of Double R Blvd and So. Meadows Blvd.
Bring: your bike for a short ride to Rick’s Deli
Reno Rambler will be there.

About 150 or so cyclists showed up. We followed the “Ghost bike” to a place near where David was hit. A short ceremony, now the bike is locked to a post in front of a deli on Double R Blvd. Rick’s deli aggreed to have it there and said they will watch it before eventually the DPW or someone else takes it away.
Srory is on Ch. 8 and Ch. 2 tonight.
I didn’t know David but possibly rode with him sometime in a group.
Was a nice morning for a ride too!
I’ve posted a few photos on my blog of the event. A beautiful day for it. Nice to see such a big group of riders out there showing their support. Ride safe!
