Reno and Beyond: Is Cabelas The Devil?

- The Reno PD has been waiting and waiting and waiting on a toxicology report from the FBI for the Kathy Augustine investigation. We know the FBI is busy but three months?
- Cabela’s gets the go ahead from the city. Vivian Freeman is NOT happy about it. Are you guys with the city or Freeman on Cabelas? Take the poll (Look at the top of the Red Bar of Content).
- Nevada Army National Guard Sgt. Patrick Stewart, 34, who died Sept. 25, 2005, is finally getting his Wiccan emblem on a plaque on the Veterans’ Memorial Wall at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. Its shameful that it took a year, and that the solution was a work around provided locally. Kudos to Kenny Guinn and Tim Tetz, the executive director of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services who made it happen. When soldiers graves are used as political footballs, something has gone seriously wrong.
- Strangest Google search that brought someone to Discontents today: “when to have sex after taking cialisis.” I’m sorry dude. Wish we could’ve been more help (maybe if either one of us had spelled it right, your little problem would be closer to a solution).
- The Republican Three plus Colin Powell take on Bush over torture. This is not rocket science people. We torture and subvert the law here, other governments can do the same and we won’t have a legal or moral leg to stand on. If you want to protect the homeland and the troops, give them appropriate equipment, send enough troops to do the job, and while you’re at it, improve veteran’s benefits.
- Did you catch Jimmy Carter on Larry King last night? Most people are talking about his Lieberman disavowal, but here’s what he said about Dick Cheney which seems much more newsworthy to me (and my mom):
KING: We’re back with President Jimmy Carter. Your reaction to Vice President Cheney’s assertion that the criticism of Iraq, the Iraq war, emboldens United States enemies and makes allies doubt American resolve.
CARTER: Well, the vice president unfortunately has been consistently very careless with the truth. He still maintains some preposterous comments and attitudes toward the origins of the Iraqi war, the circumstances in Iraq now and he’s had a policy in my opinion of deliberately trying to mislead the American people by making untrue statements and there’s no reason to give any credence to his ridiculous claims that you’ve just described.
KING: But why — so you’re questioning his motives? Do you think he doesn’t really agree with what we’re doing?
CARTER: I really don’t know what his real policies or beliefs are but I do know that he’s been most consistent since the very origin of the Iraqi war in deliberately misleading the American people by making false statements, statements that I’m sure he knew were not true.
And this is a very serious thing for a highly placed official in America to do and even now he still will not admit, for instance, that Saddam Hussein was not at least partially possible for the 9/11 attacks, when the president himself has said that’s a false statement.
And to constantly say that anybody that criticizes any aspect of our misguided policies in Iraq are unpatriotic and imply our condoning of terrorist attacks is completely ridiculous and ought to be refuted forcefully by everybody.
Forget about Lieberman, Jimmy Carter just told us he believes Cheney is deceitful and the he maintains “prepostorous” and “ridiculous” notions about the origins of the Iraq War.
- Ah, the Survivor premiere. Everything will be alright as long as its only the African American tribe cracking jokes about how the African American can’t swim. Because of the nature of the teams, its ironic that this is the most ethnically diverse Survivor ever. I’ve got my eye on Yul. Talk about an over-achiever.

[...] 38 people voted in our very serious and totally official “Is Cabela’s The Devil?” poll last week–that’s a record for a Discontent’s poll. I suspect we have the RGJ’s new blog round-up feature in their breaking news section to thank for the record number of votes. Hey–we’ll take ‘em wherever we can get ‘em–you wouldn’t be the first person to say we’re easy. [...]

If I was Cabela’s planning dept. I’d build my I-80 store next to the Ikea in Sacramento. not over the hill in Nevada. we all know it’s tough to go over the hill 4 months of the year.
This deal for Verdi seems fishier all the time.
