Cohousing isn’t too communist-like: private ownership of individual condominiums, bought on the open market, created by private developers, individual kitchens, no shared bathrooms, even private backyards sometimes. That doesn’t mean it won’t get protested, but in general the end result is nicer than what would otherwise get built somewhere. Community connections, knowing your neighbors, etc.: that’s just a nice bonus.
