Something nice or nothing at all…

Just a day after our previous rant about Senator Titus’ horrible, cartonish ads, she hired announced that there’s an ew firm to make the new ads.

The good news is that they’ve replaced the goofy condescending narrator. They’ve gotten rid of the ridiculous animation. And the production values. We especially like the way Congressman Gibbons’ face slides across the screen.

The bad news is that they’ve got an equally condescending narrator. And the scripts are just as bad as the last set, but the narrator’s velvety smooth new voice distracts one from the poor writing.

The ads point out Gibbons’ myriad inconsistencies, in these two instances, anyway, on matters of choice and taxation. The ads summarize themselves with “Jim Gibbons forgot… but Nevada Remembers.” Which is actually a little further off message than the last ads. It’s just not that good a tagline. Maybe they’ll change it before the ads go up tomorrow.

[...] After listening to audio clips from the debate last night between Dina Titus and Jim Gibbons I am struck by the ability that Titus has to sound both like an ignorant yokel and an arrogant elitist at the same time. It is a voice and accent combination that inflicts a sort of bumpkin mother-in-law vibe. Kind of like, “yah betta let me raise yaw taxes if yew know what’s gud fur ye!” I guess that comes from years of talking down to students. Gibbons is wooden, Titus is annoying! I hope most Nevadans are like me and don’t want to hear that annoying voice and accent for the next four years. Titus just fired her attack ad producer and hired a new one with the only benefit being that I don’t think the new one can do any worse. The Titus campaign must be doing pretty bad when the writer of a local Reno blog that has been referred to as “RenoKos” is critical of it. [...]

I’ll just keep saying this as many times as I have to. Not voting for someone because of their accent is about the stupidest reason I’ve ever heard of for not voting for someone.
