Endorsements #2, 3, 4 — Treasurer, Secretary of State, Lieutenant Governor

With Early voting starting tomorrow, we realize we should’ve started rolling out the ol’ endorsements maybe a little sooner. That said, we’re going to make three quick and dirty endorsements. These are all pretty straightforward, and will keep you strung along before we go in for the kill on the Governor’s and congressional races, all of which will get their own post. Also, for some reason, the Controller’s race will have its own post — probably over the weekend. Because, while you may not care about the Controller’s office, we do.

Nah, just joshing ya’. We don’t care either.

Kate MarshallEndorsement #2: We’ve been longstanding fans of Kate Marshall for State Treasurer — and you should be, too. Despite being perhaps the most well-spoken and energetic democrat on the ballot, Kate’s got skills. What does she know about being state Treasurer? Well, who knows, but she’s got big plans for what she wants to do in the office. Mark DeStefano — who beat out the late Kathy Augustine is his primary this August — is even more ethically questionable a nominee than his erstwhile opponent.

DeStefano, who got thrown off a ballot for lying about his residency in 2004. DeStefano, who declared bankruptcy in 1989. DeStefano, twice investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission for his shady business practices. DeStefano, who was once fired from his job as an air traffic controller for… wait for it… a “psychotic disorder.” O, woe unto the state that elects this man, sayeth MMP. His campaign is much better funded than Marshall’s, in part to his unfortunate business connections. Beyond that, he’s invested a significant amount of his personal wealth.

DeStefano says it’s unfair for Gary Grey (longtime democratic hatchet man) to bring this sort of stuff up. He says the only reason anybody is talking about this stuff is because Marshall doesn’t have a record to stand on. The Las Vegas Review Journal and the Nevada Appeal, however, disagree. She’s also got the endorsement of the Reno-Sparks and Las Vegas Chambers of Commerce. It was only a matter of time before she drafted an obvious “Marshall Plan” for the office — this one involves giving very little aid to Europe, but is nevertheless an ambitious plan for a novice politician. And it’s refreshing to hear somebody talk about the office like it matters — even if it doesn’t.

Ross MillerEndorsement #3: Ross Miller’s daddy could beat up Danny Tarkanian’s daddy. The son of the Golf Governor Bob Miller is taking on the son of towel-biting (really) Basketball Coach Jerry Tarkanian. It’s worth noting that Danny’s mom was a longtime member of the Clark County School board before moving over to the Las Vegas City Council.

Tarkanian is running a cynical campaign trying to trick voters into believing that there are illegal immigrants voting, all over the place. In fact, they’re using their sophisticated illegal immigrant computers to hack into the Secretary of State’s office and register to vote. And then, in place of taking time off from one of forty-eight jobs a piece they’ve stolen from hardworking Americans, they show up on election day and vote for Democrats. Thank god for Danny Tarkanian’s requiring that everybody show some kind of photo ID — that way… nobody can… vote in their neighbor’s place? Is this happening?

Miller has good ideas about the initiative process — making it harder for wackjobs to pull the woll over our eyes with naming schemes. In fact, we’d love for somebody to come along and do away with that whole process, but we’re likely pretty far away from that. Plus, we’re just excited to see John Walsh on TV after all these years.

Endorsement #4: Bob Unger should be Lieutenant Governor, despite his campaign. Brian Krolicki has made a career taking credit for other people’s accomplishments. Be it Bob Seale or Kenny Guinn, Krolicki is happy taking credit for things — like the millennium scholarship — that he had very little to do with him, if anything at all. Guinn rather famously dislikes Krolicki — despite the commercial where they’re holding hands, walking across the capitol lawn.

Unger’s had his finger on the pulse of Nevada’s economic development. As a candidate, he’s unrefined; joking about his fundraising inability, wearing bright-Unger-orange-colored Shirts. His shoddy campaign is perhaps what we find most appealing about him. When you talk to Bob Unger, you’re talking to Bob Unger. If he pauses on answering a question, it’s because he didn’t come from a staffed-up briefing talking about how he should answer the question.

Krolicki is a stark contrast. And it’s time for his deal-with-the-devil inspired political career to come to an end.

Nice cheer. Miller look like he’s on a cover of one of the Left Behind books in that photo. I find it slightly repulsive, but he seems like a good candidate.

I have always not preferred Krolicki (eventhough the name is a blogger’s dream). I’m glad Unger is giving me good reasons to vote for him besides that fact that he’s a democrat.

I’m surprised you didnt get any email from the screwjobs out there obsessed with Marshall.

You’ve got to love the clouds in that picture of bachelor #3. Are those cirrus or shit?

Myrna: Hopefully, the Marshall people have all crawled back into their caves and waited until Geoffrey VanderPal ran for another office. Hopefully.

Ginger: We’re all about profanity, and everything, but that’s just not necessary. But seriously — what were they going for there.

I disagree regarding Unger vs Krolicki. Krolicki is far more intelligent and experienced. Citing a shoddy campaign as a positive attribute is ridiculous. And as far the Millenium Scholarship is concerned, what is the base level of its success? Answer – Money. Who is largely responsible for managing our money? Answer: Krolicki, State Treasurer. Unger is a fat cat businessman with a focus on Las Vegas. If we want someone who can represent Northern Nevada, and has extensive political experience, then Krolicki is the man.
