Help Victims Of The Mizpah Fire

- WHAT: Emergency drive to collect cash, check or gift certificates dedicated to placing former Mizpah residents in permanent housing. (Please, no clothing, furnishings, etc.)
- WHEN: Wednesday, November 08, 6:00am-6:00pm
- WHERE: Grand Sierra Resort, South entrance motor coach porte-cochere
- WHY: Working-class folks, veterans, retirees and disabled persons were left homeless after the deadly Mizpah fire. They have income or pensions and only need a hand up, not a hand out.
All funds are restricted to helping Mizpah fire survivors
- Restart, 490 Mill Street, Reno, NV 89502 phone: 324.2622
- Northern Nevada Red Cross, 1190 Corporate Blvd, Reno, NV 89502 phone: 845.1000
Cash donations will be shared by organizations; checks go to organization of donor’s choice.
WHERE MONEY GOES:
For every person placed, it takes cash to pay for items like these:
documents to verify positive identification, credit history required by landlord, rent deposit
utilities deposit and first month’s rent. Basic furnishings, clothing and food are also necessary.
DETAILS:
Over 60 affordable housing units are needed as of this time but we expect this number may grow. Red Cross has some folks in temporary motel lodging. ReStart must find affordable housing for the rest. Eleven households have been placed in housing already—4 in Sparks, 7 in Reno. (A household may consist of 1, 2 or 4 persons.)
7 radio stations will broadcast from Grand Sierra Resort from 6a-6p, inviting listeners to come with donations (Reno Radio Reps stations Alice 96.5, Sunny, River, Bob, Z93, KJFK & Buzz)
Supported by community leaders: Reno Mayor Bob Cashell, Sparks Mayor Geno Martini, Reno and Sparks Fire and Police and leaders from virtually every industry plus UNR student organizations.
