Stop sending us blogger-specific junkmail.

IN THE BEGINNING we started up MMP for some a few friends who kept asking us about politics. Only they had the URL — we never e-mailed out an announcement to other bloggers of the press or anybody. We linked to a few other Nevada blogs just to keep them abreast of stuff we just didn’t feel like talking about. Frankly, we always found — and still find — blogging to be a generally stupid and self-absorbed activity. It was just easier than updating our college friends about the political scene.

One day, kind of at random, a link to our old site appeared on the Gleaner’s sidebar. Suddenly, our dozen friends from about the state turned into hundreds of hits a day. People were commenting. We were getting threats of violence. One day we’d get an e-mail calling us a genius, the next day, a backwards-thinking retard. Occasionally, we got e-mails saying both. Those were the best e-mails of all.

We switched to Myrna’s beautiful site because we weren’t capable of handling the more technical aspects. If we were going to have readers, they may as well have a great experience, right? We applaud the Minx for her dedication to producing a great site. To this day, whenever we embed a picture, we have to go back to an e-mail she sent us months ago with very precise instructions.

So anyway. To the point: We’re getting out of the business. This will be our last-ever update on Reno and Its Discontents or, most likely, any other blog. It’s been fun and all. But really, blogs are a place for dogma and nonintellectual tripe spouted out and regurgitated from party press releases. That’s never been our style. So, well, thanks for your attention for the time we’ve had together.

We’ve disabled comments. Some of you are pen pals who write occasionally — we’d love to hear from you. If you’ve got something you’d like to say, questions to ask or more insults to sling, e-mail ‘em: morning.politics@gmail.com.

Happy Holidays.

I can comment. I’ll miss your acerbic ass anyway. But if you ever show up on another blog, you’re dead meat I tell you. Dead meat.
