The Gift of Music: Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry”
Bob Marley is perhaps the greatest songwriter ever when you consider his ability to convey emotion through lyrics, melody, and vocal and stage performance. His gift allowed him to write the most tender of love songs (romantic and religious), or explicate the effects of social injustice in one of his many protest songs, with equal skill. Marley was the master at transmitting his message of love, peace, and social justice like nobody before or since.
So here’s “No Woman, No Cry,” a love song set within a poignant indictment of poverty and social injustice. Somehow, Marley makes you believe that everything IS going to be alright if you just keep listening.
