John Edwards Makes It Official

I know you’re surprised by this but John Edwards is running for president. He announced earlier this morning on Good Morning America. Do you think George Stephanapolous’ holiday hosting gig had anything to do with the venue? Anyway, Edwards is also going to be in Reno this Friday so Nothern Nevadans get another chance to check him out up close and in person. Please take advantage of the opportunity.

Where: Silver State Pavilion, Grand Sierra Resort (old Hilton)
When: Friday, doors open at 5:30pm
How: Tickets are available at the Washoe County Dems office or on John Edwards’ website.

Edwards has also set up a private Q and A for bloggers preceding the town hall event. That’s right Reno, bloggers get to meet Edwards BEFORE Ray Hagar.

The Edwards campaign also released a video he made while visiting the 9th ward of New Orleans. While some have reacted to the location Edwards chose for his presidential announcement, I kind of get it. Edwards has spent the last four years establishing himself as an expert and activist on poverty in America, and I think holding a national day of action (January 27th) is a fabulous idea hearkening back to JFK. I know others differ with me, but I think Edwards and Obama offer the most hope as Democratic presidential candidates because of their youth, energy, and populist message. Plus, Edwards has solidified his support in Iowa and South Carolina since 2004. Nevada is the last frontier for him.

Full disclosure: this site is hosting an Edwards ad. It is our policy to host ads for Democratic candidates and progressive issues among other things. An ad does not constitute a candidate endorsement.

so the real question.
Can Edwards showcase his great judgement and intellect without being condescending, snotty, and sanctimonious to “the masses”???

I like the guy. It’s pretty honest to say to America that the radical conservatives have really screwed us for 6 years. We’re going to have to all sacrifice to fix what they’ve broken - it’s time we ask Americans to sacrifice and be patriotic about something other than war.

I want a President who’s smarter than me.

I like him too. He impressed me during the last election. He was so presidential even then in his appearance, the way he conducted himself and he was even articulate! What more could you ask of a president! It has been so long since we understood anything that came out of the White House. Actually, it is his integrity and forthrightness that I so admire. Thank you John Edwards for offering us a choice. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Here is a video that I found earlier today and I have watched it several times. Perhaps you’ll enjoy it too.

Well, honesty is key. I hope he stays totally honest. This economy is about to tank. Honestly. He’s gonna have to tax the rich. But then again, we’re pouring, what $2 BILLION dollars a week into the desert of Iraq. That money could be better spent. Anyway. I look forward to hearing what Edwards would do. Nevada bloggers have arrived!

I think this is going to be a new and interesting campaign. Clearly tech savvy and geared to courting the netroots. It’s also going to be a grassroots campaign from the first day.

“We’re not going to wait until the election, we’re going to take action right now.”

“This campaign is about fixing the mess in Iraq, restoring our moral leadership, building One America, dealing with healthcare and energy crisis, ending poverty.”

“The starting point is getting people to act … getting them involved.”

“I want desperately to get this to be a campaign from the ground up.”

– Edwards quotes from a bloggers conference call I was in on.

So, consider joining the Reno OneCorps: http://blog.johnedwards.com/chapter/274

well hey, i almost got to travel to reno and see the announcement - my loss.

We in North Carolina are happy to see Senator Edwards in the race, and I am thrilled that his office is in my neighborhood.

I think the most important thing to watch over the next six months is the difference in what John Edwards is asking of you and what the other candidates are asking.
