Myrna And The Mayor

Downtown Makeover Dude alerted the minx to my co-starring role on today’s episode of Nevada Newsmakers. Marlene Lockard (massive hair flip for you!) has been reading Reno and Its Discontents because she quizzed Mayor Cashell about some of the plaza completion issues we’ve been discussing lately.

Since Mayor Cashell said he was going to look us up during the show, I wanted to take a moment and restate the mission of this blog–to celebrate the reemergence of downtown Reno. In fact, in my interview for a feature on Placeblogger.com, I said: “Its amazing to watch a city rediscover its heart.” Granted, I don’t love everything the City is doing, but if you peruse the blog under the development category, you will find bucket loads of positive feedback about city projects. I started this blog because I was excited about downtown, and my neighborhood in particular. Active citizens are what make a city great, and I like to keep an eye on what’s going on my neighborhood–the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Cashell claimed that the city hasn’t shifted it priorities as far as redevelopment and I believe him. My disappointment stems from the announcement of ambitious projects like the two plazas that are quickly scaled back or completed in pieces (we hope). I would advise Mayor Cashell to check out this site at least a couple of times a week. We have great contributors like DMD with a lot of interesting ideas about Reno development. We are the kind of citizens you want to talk to Mayor. And by all means, feel free to talk back! In fact, here are the keys to the blog!
