Taking The Night Off, But First More On Nevada’s Fox News Debate
Jerome Armstrong at MyDD polled several of the presidential candidate campaigns on whether they would show up for Nevada’s Fox News debate in August–here’s the list:
Here are their paraphrased responses:
Edwards: No
Richardson: Yes
Obama: Decision will be made within the week
Clinton: Too early to make a decision
Dodd: They haven’t decided yet
Biden: No response
Because New Mexico somehow got roped into Reid’s Western Majority Project, Bill Richardson doesn’t have a real choice. He gave his tacit agreement at some point so he probably can’t back out unless the debate is canceled altogether. Now that Edwards has come out publicly and said he will not attend (not solely because it will be broadcast on Fox News I might add), its a race between Clinton and Obama to be the next one to boycott. If Obama says no first, Clinton will loose the netroots vote–she is already suspected of being too friendly with Fox owner Rupert Murdoch. If I were Obama, I would announce right away that I was boycotting the event. That way he can join Edwards as one of the more principled candidates (something that couldn’t hurt after today’s NYTimes article), and make Clinton look even more establishment than she already does. Even the Democrats who think this debate is a whole lot of nothing will forgive him because of his recent history with Fox News. Unless he has his sights on being Clinton’s running mate that is. And if I were Clinton? I would have already released a statement about not attending. That’s her only hope of holding on to some of the netroots support through the primary. As second tier candidates, Biden and Dodd can afford to wait and see what the front runners do.
UPDATE: During their conference call today, the Executive Board decided to give Tom Collins’ latest effort towards mollifying Democrats a bit of time before making a new move. Can it be long before we hear that Obama is also skipping the debate?
By the way Jerome, I never got my letter of recognition from the now defunct Warner campaign for my almost exclusive interview…

RESOLUTION OPPOSING FOX PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
March 7, 2007
WHEREAS, Fox News is not a neutral source of news – it’s a right-wing mouthpiece like Rush Limbaugh that smears Democrats and spreads blatantly false information; and
WHEREAS, Democrats granting Fox News the illusion of credibility would allow Fox to more easily “swiftboat” our 2008 candidates by pushing false Republican attacks into the mainstream media; and
WHEREAS, everyone supports reaching out to new people, but 1 day of Fox coverage is not worth legitimizing Fox’s misinformation the other 364 days a year; and
WHEREAS, plenty of better alternatives exist to Fox News – in Nevada, MSNBC plus its NBC affiliates, for example, get approximately double the viewers of Fox cable plus its local affiliates; and
WHEREAS, we believe that Democrats need to fight back against Fox News and the right-wing smear machine in the 2008 election cycle—not enable it.
BE IT RESOLVED, the Carson City Democratic Central Committee opposes the proposal to let Fox News host a Democratic presidential debate and strongly urges the Nevada Democratic Party to drop that proposal.

Hey Myrna, the confusion may have something to do with his medications (you know doctors raise and lower dosages and change them up from time-to-time) and so, one day “The Man” becomes “Mr. Johnson” and gets confused…it’s probably not your fault at all!

So let’s see if I get this straight. Myrna, JLA and texex think it is insane to have the debate on FOX because they only present one side of the news, censor stuff and silence anyone who says otherwise. But when Myrna censors her own story when someone points out that it is a cheap shot and then bans that person from commenting that is all part of the open-minded, non-fascist discourse you claim to be a part of? Interesting.
Mr. Johnson, I have never banned anyone from commenting here. Jeez, I haven’t even banned Jerz.
There must be an issue with wordpress. All of Scandalmonger’s comments go to moderation first for approval and I have no idea why.
I just checked and there are no comments in moderation. I have no idea what happened. I guess you’ll have to post at Mr. Johnson instead of the man. Again, I have never banned anyone from commenting although that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t but it wouldn’t be because someone disagrees with me. Duh. It would be because it was offensive or a possible libel issue.

Get a grip. You’re losing control again. Just like on that post you took down. I never said you’re a fascist, and I never said you should ban anyone. Your site, however, has been hijacked by crazy morons. And you have let it go unchecked. Checking it could consist of a “whoa, there, crazy morons, that’s a little outrageous, don’tcha think?” But you’ve let it go, and it’s ruining this site as a place to actually come for some discussion.

If it was a wordpress issue then comments from “Mr. Johnson” would not post. But that didn’t happen.
When someone’s comment doesn’t post and then you try again right then and there with a different name and it does, something smells a little fishy. But when you then go change the name back to “The Man” again right then and there and it doesn’t post, there’s something wrong in Denmark and not someone’s browser or Wordpress glitch.
Your claims of innocence and defensive responses just don’t wash with the facts. Not that it would matter to your new fanboys who, by the way, or doing a bangup job publicizing your blog.
But for someone who prides themselves for being above it all and calling for open minds and debate it’s actually quite sad. For all the hype and good press RD has received in the past, when push comes to shove you really are no better than the JLA’s and texex’s of the blog world.

In the interest of full disclosure, I will admit to being jealous of someone who bans people and rips posts they get tired of. I do this right and expect that everyone elsse should, too. But KidFromVegas, acting like you’re against personal attacks on one blog and conducting them on another is the height of hipocrisy! OMG, did I get all self-righteous? I believe I did. Any of you people who come on here and defend Myrna, who despite claiming to not even know how to ban someone, yet someone is mysteriously banned from her site, are making a mockery of this series of tubes. It’s quite okay, I suppose, if that’s how you want to play it. Don’t complain to me when nobody takes you seriously, though.
Actually I think this site has already jumped the shark. People will still visit, but any relevance or “cred” has been lost. It’s becoming a den for thugs who somehow thinks calling someone an a-hole is intellectual debate.
