Nevada Democrats Slay The Beast And Say “NO” To Fox News
I was supposed to wait on this but I’ve already heard it from two other sources that the .
I wish it hadn’t have taken by Roger Ailes to force their hand, but you can always count on Fox News to deliver on the sleaze, uh, I mean “news.” I hope this is the beginning of a larger movement by Democrats to stop appearing on a TV station that is devoted to their failure. Nevada Dems took down Fox (with a little help from our friends in the netroots)! Let’s celebrate by throwing the best democratic caucus this country has ever seen and finding a real news outlet to broadcast the debate! From DailyKos’s post earlier this morning:

It is true that just in the last two weeks Hillary Clinton has had over 200 phone calls telling her in order to win the presidency she must stay on the road for the next two years. It is not true they were all from Bill.

And it is true that Barack Obama is on the move. I don’t know if it’s true that President Bush called Musharraf and said, ‘Why can’t we catch this guy?’
It should be a no-brainer for Obama and Clinton to skip this debate, given it’s sponsored by the premier propaganda outlet of the conservative movement. It’s the place Ann Coulter runs to for sanctuary, where racist blowhards trash Obama’s church for not being Christian enough since it’s — gasp! — a black church in a black neighborhood.
And what’s more, Ailes threatened Edwards:
Any candidate for high office of either party who believes he can blacklist any news organization is making a terrible mistake about journalists. And any candidate of either party who cannot answer direct, simple, even tough questions from any journalist runs a real risk of losing the voters.
The Hotline looked at that threat, and says it’s the reason people like us :
John Edwards is skipping a debate — one of more than a dozen — arguably a little less fundamental to our deliberate democracy. And the threat here is that Fox News will somehow treat Edwards differently if he refuses to appear at their debate. Doesn’t that reinforce the reasons why Edwards (spurred by Nevada grassroots Dems, MoveOn and Kos) is dubious.
They’re going to treat Edwards differently regardless, since he’s one of those, you know, Democrats. It’s what Fox does.
Yesterday, Harry Reid and hung out his local party out to dry:
When the party announced in February that Fox would be broadcasting the debate, it issued a statement in which Reid was quoted as saying “This is more great news for Nevada. I’m happy FOX News will be a partner for the August presidential debate.”
Asked Thursday if we was standing by that statement, Reid said “I hold elation” over the attention that the Nevada caucus is getting from presidential candidates and that Nevada debates will be televised. But he suggested his statement might have been different “had I known at that time that it would be a controversy.”
In addition to distancing himself from the FOX decision Thursday — “I don’t like FOX News” — the Senate Majority Leader reiterated several times that the Nevada Democratic Party is independent and not controlled by him, at one point going so far as to say “I just don’t know what’s going on in the party.”
Regardless of where this goes from here (and I can’t imagine this debate will happen now), fact is Fox News’ efforts to paint themselves a credible news operation has suffered serious damage. There are nearly 200 articles on on the controversy, every single one of them referring to Fox News as a conservative propaganda outlet. And that’s just on print, not including air time spent on this story.
So not only is the future of this debate in question, and the “fair and balanced” coverage it would provide, but the whole controversy has broadly exposed the fact that Fox News is anything but “fair and balanced”.
So buckle down, the right wing is about to throw one major hissy fit.

I think this is good news for all Dems here. The locals get the hat-tips, but the leadership provided by Edwards to “just say no” to an ill-conceived event was the beginning of it. JMO.

Tom Collins is just a stubborn bully! God, how many times do you have to hit him in the head with a rock from sling-shot?
This is just one reason why Tom Collins should not be in any leadership positon – PERIOD!
First he makes HOMOPHOBIC stupid and offensive statements to the GLBT, then he says, like A RELGIOUS ZEALOT “Tha he follow the teaching of his church” (when asked about the doctrine of seperation of church and state), then, unbelievably, he makes the SEXIST statement that “the women and theri ERA movement is what destroyed the Democratic Party!”
Then, in cahoots with Clark County Chair Liz Foley, he attempts to do away with the voting status of the Dem Clubs and Caucus groups!
Then, he makes the stupid decision to “partner” with FOX without even consulting with the NSDP Executive Board – what a DICTATOR!
I’m glad he decided NOT to run for re-election to the NSDP! But, is that really enough to make everyone comfortable? NOT!
Why is Tom Collins still the Co-Chair of the 2008 Presidential Caucus, and why is he still a Clark County Commissioner?
He’s so out of touch with the people and the times? This is 2007 and Collins is trapped in some sort of time warp of 1940!
How can we find out WHO the County Dem Chairs were who signed letters of support FOR the FAUX debate? I want the names of these butt lickers who, like Tom Collins, and that one State Dem chick feel they can speak out on behalf of all DEMS in this state and put it writing that we support this crap when we were never asked??
Also, I am sure Elko County will love to watch the Faux Dem debates with hot buttered popcorn and a few stiff ones. Afterall, hate speech should be protected in the Elko Daily Free Press for Ann Coulter!

We are working on four lists:
1.) The Nevada Honorable Fighting Democrats List of those who refused to be bullied and strong armed by dictator Tom Collins and had the courage to refuse to sign the letter in support of FOX.
2.) The Nevada “Oakey Dokey” List of chair warming cowards that just want to “go-along-to-get-along” types who should not be holding any leadership positions in the opinions of many.
3.) Those current and past key leaders, still active in the party, that signed neither list and have taken no position publicly on the FOX fight – these will need to be analyzed on a one on one basis by all members to decide their worthiness to lead?
4.) Current Staff: Most of these just need to be known better for the position and title for future reference by everyong active in the NSDP.
It’ time to sort the people out based on principal and the courage to be candid and speak truth to power on behalf of ALL Nevada Democrats!
We’ll try to get this done over the weekend.
A disliked leader in a rural party that has poor attendance and “token” power can look awful like a “representative” miles away with a title of “county party chair”.
I want to know who those people are who abused their titles in such a manner to create the perception that Dems statewide supported this bull crap. Off with their phony heads!
