Reno and Beyond: Who’s That Again?

- Maybe the White House press core thinks they’ve been reporting on Sununu all along?(see photo and caption above if puzzled)
- Gibbons’ preeminent lawyers say that everyone should stop making fun of the governor. Are you listening Stanley?
- Man, we can’t keep this guy away.
- If this doesn’t ready like its straight out of a script for Reno 911, I don’t does.
- I know you thought you might not see anything about the canceled Fox News debate–you’d be wrong. Bogus arguments against why Democrats shouldn’t have canceled it are continuing, so let’s look a few others circulating out there. If you missed the first post on bogus arguments for not canceling the debate, you can read them here.
CLS at Blue Lyon holds up an interview with Bill Maher as evidence that the Nevada State Democratic Party might have made the wrong decision. First, there’s the fact that Bill Maher recognizes Coulter’s “Democrats are pussies” argument as something normal people wouldn’t think was funny:
“She was nt booed. There was actually a moment of ooh and then they all burst into applause. It went over like a cross on fire….They actually liked that comment. And to people, normal people, you know, people who think like human beings, it was just confusing.”
Ah, but the ever consistent Maher goes on to characterize Democrats who are not Bill Clinton in exactly the same way when he describes how Bill Clinton stood up to the “the bully,” (uh, did he mean door mat?) Fox News’ Chris Wallace, and showed Democrats how to behave in the face of such overpowering machismo. But ask yourself this–why sit across from someone you know is going to be an asshole? Doesn’t that make you a schmuck? or maybe somebody’s bitch?
That’s why its not about Democrats being pussies, its about Democrats finally saying: “Hey Fox News–Screw You!. I’d rather talk to someone that’s more interested in informing their audience than they are in making their idealogical point.” But more importantly, by refusing to legitimize Fox News’ posturing as a principled news outlet, the discourse on politics and on journalism in this country is changing. The MSM is actually writing pieces about this and asking themselves and others what it could mean and what’s coming next. I’m the last person to claim that the other cable news networks are perfect–they are all turning to pompous blowhards like Keith Olbermann (I only watch him to get my five minutes of the delicious mancake Richard Wolffe) and Glenn Beck, or the hysterical blondes like Nancy Grace and Rita Cosby. Egads. Can’t we do better? You want to know where the move towards Fox News style coverage has taken us America? Straight to a faux bully president that clears brush in photo ops and lets Cheney rule from behind his left shoulder. People who think Democrats are pussies because they’re Democrats are the people who voted this fake cowboy mama’s boy into office. A bunch of smart cookies alright. We should keep humoring them.
- But this really is a funny, if not a surprising bit of research. BoingBoing’s post on it is called “Men Stare At Crotches.” Duh. What’s really surprising is that men also stare at “the equipment” of animals. That’s gotta be hard when you’re around horses. Perhaps that’s what’s going in in Nevada and Texas?
- Coyote Angry muses about her choices for president. I don’t think Giuliani has a prayer of making it through a primary no matter how sorry the other candidates are–unless they all drop out I guess. That guy humiliated his family on at least regional TV for god’s sake. His best friend and business partner is headed for an indictment among other things. I can’t believe that centrist American would fall for his faux tough guy crap, although I have been wrong before–twice. To tell you the truth, I think Obama is the right guy at the right time–he understands symbolism and metaphor, he’s positive, he has gravitas, he seems to make the right decisions so his judgment is pretty good. But more than anything, I think people are yearning for someone new, in the center, untarnished, and idealistic, and right now, he’s that guy.
- Instead of running a Discontents bracket on ESPN this year, I was lazy and joined MyDD’s (not John McCain’s). Since there are quite a few members of that group, my odds of winning this year definitely aren’t good. It would have been nice to kick Jerz’s ass again–not to mention getting my hands on another diamond trophy. I picked upsets in two regions and went with the seeds in the other two. I can’t wait to see how that turns out. The one upset I didn’t pick was VCU–I held my nose and picked Duke to win. God help you Coach K if you don’t.

Hey, you can have basketball, I’ll take independent thought. The Reno 911 story is from Roundhill. That’s not in Reno. It’s about an hour or more away, but still funny. Finally, at least Edwards buys Blogads.
Absolute, complete nonsense! I always stare at the breasts!
Holy crap! That’s a Hillary ad!
Some people just don’t get it. Imagine black folk in the lynching years, taking their cause to a KKK meeting.
For those interested in Douglas County Democrats, an election was held last night and we have (almost) a completely new leadership in our local party. Attendance and enthusiasm was at an all time high so perhaps we’ve turned the corner. If you’ve stayed away because of past problems, I encourage you to please come visit us again and give it another try.
When I have the date, I’ll let you know when the next meeting is and how to get there. Y’all come.
To paraphrase, there are polls, polls, and damn lies. KOS has one going now that’s en-lightning with almost 13,000 votes:
Edwards 40%;
Obambam 26%;
Richardson 8%; and
Hilly barely leading Kucinich 3% to 2%.
Hmmm….could it have anything to do with Edwards coming out first against Fux? Naaaah.
