It Looks Like A Blue Nevada

According to a new report on the Secretary of State’s website (and an email from the Nevada Democratic Party), Nevada now has more registered Democratic voters than it has Republican voters.  Although there seems to be less buzz around the beltway about the importance of Nevada’s Democratic caucus in January, within the state, the registration of new voters is one clear result of  becoming a sanctioned part of the early primary process.

4,117 more registrations may not seem like much, but in a state where elections are won and lost in margins smaller than that, it can make a world of difference in local elections. Democrat Tessa Hafen lost the race for Congressional District 3 to Republican John Porter by 3971 votes in 2006.  And in the most conservative district, Congressional District 2 by, Republican Dean Heller only beat Democratic candidate Jill Derby by about 13,000 votes.  2008 should be very interesting indeed.
