Money Can’t Buy You Iowa

Money can’t buy you Iowa much to Mitt Romney’s chagrin and Huckabee’s delight. Marc Ambinder estimates that Romney spent $30 million on television ads in Iowa alone. Or was it Huckabee’s non-negative negative campaigning that secured his win? Is there anyway Huckabee can win the Nevada Caucus after only visiting the state, what, twice? Am I wrong? The Mormons will come out for Romney here like the evangelicals came out for Huckabee in Iowa.

Its always amazing how quickly pundits begin changing their predictions. Last night, Rudy Giuliani was a fool for not campaigning in Iowa, but tonight he’s a genius according to CNN’s Gloria Boger. David Gergen just predicted a major schism in the Republican party. Goody.

Obama’s win on the Democratic side is somewhat of a surprise because, well, he’s not white, but he’s not Mormon either. I’ve always liked the metaphorical possibilities Obama and his campaign represent and that those should continue as he heads back to Nevada by way of New Hampshire.

I wonder if my non-endorsed candidate John Edwards can pull out a second place finish? BTW, Edwards gave a terrific speech at his Iowa headquarters. Both Edwards and Obama gave inspiring speeches tonight-very destinyish–particularly in the case of Obama. Second place is a good place for a candidate like Edwards to be and Obama seems very natural as a front runner all of a sudden.

Update: Damn, Jack Cafferty just described Barack Obama as articulate and Chris Matthews seems to have some issues with Rachel Maddow, whose commentary I find stellar. Perhaps she makes him as nervous as Hillary Clinton?
