Reno Downtown Development Update
- Washoe County approved a reserve fund of $750,000 to $1.45 million to back a private bond sale that would borrow money for the new downtown baseball stadium. Traditional municipal bonds are not an option in the tougher credit market.
- A party to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new baseball stadium will be held in downtown Reno on February 25th at 11 a.m. behind the downtown Reno fire station at Evans and Second streets.
- To accommodate the new baseball stadium, the city council voted to move the downtown fire station and build two temporary stations at Fourth and Valley Road and on the Grand Sierra property
- In a controversial decision, the Regional Planning Commission approved adding 28,923 acres as a Special Planning Area to Reno’s master plan. The new acreage includes lands in Cold Springs, Winnemucca Ranch and parts of the Virginia Range.

Yes, it’s very controversial. All 19 people say it is. Is that how desperate we are for “controversy”?
No, its determined by the plan getting lots of press coverage over the past year. Maybe I shouldn’t have called the decision controversial, but the issue certainly has been.
Really? It has been? There’s been more coverage about Brittany Spears. Is THAT controversial? Instead of 19 people, one reporter reports on something over and over and that makes the issue controversial?
Yes. Britney Spears is controversial too, but not really of local concern……not like the city annexing a bunch of property. Claiming that growth and issues like this that are connected to Reno growth are not newsworthy or controversial is sort of, I don’t know, defensive maybe?
No, I don’t think you are being defensive at all, really. I’m just trying to understand how we get led around by the nose because we fail to research a little. I like to ask questions. I’m glad you are giving me your answers, that’s why I asked them so, no, I don’t think you are being defensive. Take it easy on yourself. You’ve probably worked hard this week. Relax, have a bubble bath.
I hate bubble baths–how prescriptive of you.
