Obama Born of A Communist Plot. He’s Black Too.
No lie, the basic argument of Lisa Schiffren at NRO is that Obama is the progeny of a communist plot that entailed white women marrying black men (usually Jewish women). So what? Why does Schiffren care that Obama is a “black/half Jewish, red diaper baby?” Schiffren manages to bring together a couple of the most historic and storied fears of the American white man–communism and black men who take up with white women–in just a couple of paragraphs. Remember Harold Ford Jr., anyone? And that’s just the white women part. And you thought the conservatives wouldn’t go there…just wait. (via Crooked Timber.)
Wolcott offers another angle on how the McCain campaign might be using Cindy McCain to emphasize the fact that the Obamas are not white:
In her review of The Sting, Pauline Kael famously jibed that Robert Redford looked “alarmingly blond–he’s gone past platinum, he must be into plutonium…”
Cindy McCain, wife of presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, appears to have entered her plutonium phase. Each time I see her on stage behind her husband, glossily smiling and applauding her husband’s talking points with energy-conserving efficiency (rationing out each series of claps as if acknowledging each new outfit in a runway collection), she seems a brighter shade of atomic blonde, on course perhaps to achieve nova at the Republican convention.
In my wild imaginings, I can’t help but hypothesize that Cindy McCain’s Hitchcock blondness–a taut cross between Tippi Hedren in The Birds and Eva Marie Saint in North by Northwest–is being high-buffed as a visual counterpoint to her presumptive rival for role of first lady, Michelle Obama. The more vanilla ice that Cindy McCain gets, the blacker Michelle Obama looks, making McCain the more traditional, formal, supportive, standing-behind-her-husband-speaking-only-when-it’s-appropriate classic model–the eternal prom queen presiding over the receiving line.
And we shouldn’t forget Bill O’Reilly’s latest contribution to the Obama (in this case Michelle) and race conversation.

Best thing I’ve heard since that singular (and, regrettably, deceased) Humboldt County, CA denizen Sasikala Devi opined that the honorific “Ms.” was “a commie lib-dyke plot.”
Hey, I know of all kinds of communist plots! Try to accuse them of not burying their dead–works for Lenin, maybe, but then?
PS: I should’ve come here in the first place, instead of wasting precious hours of my decidedly finite life vacationing in that Westworld known as rgj.com “Voices”.
