44% of Americans Online Read Political Blogs

A Harris poll on political blog readers today reports that 56% of Americans online do not read political blogs like that’s a terrible thing. Running with the deceptive headline “More Than Half of Americans Never Read Political Blogs,” what the results say to me is that 44% of Americans online read political blogs. Unless something has changed drastically since 2006, less than 50% of Americans read newspapers, the most traditional and time-honored news delivery tool, so trying to compare online political blog readership to newspaper readership just seems strange and sort of ridiculous. Comparing people who get their news online and people online who read political blogs would probably be a lot more useful. The poll ran with the not so surprising subheading: “Republican Blog Readers More Likely Than Democrats to Believe Blogs are More Accurate and Valuable Than Mainstream Media.”
