You Know What They Say about Hubris
You studied the Greek tragedies in school right? Hubris is always the cause of the protagonist’s downfall. Funny how many of us never seem to learn that thousand year old lesson. Governor Gibbons would do well to revisit a few of those Greek plays–in fact, a quick review of the Cliff Notes of a few would probably suffice–because the level of hubris Gibbons displayed on Sam Shad’s show today was amazing. From Inside Nevada Politics.
“What I want them to do is start coming up with some of their own ideas,” Gibbons told Sam Shad on Nevada Newsmakers this afternoon. “You know, all I have seen out of some of these individuals is constant criticism. I think it’s time that when they ran for office that they realize they have an obligation and they have to come up with their own ideas.”
The “they” in this case are state legislators. And please keep in mind that Gibbons also hasn’t SPOKEN to Assembly Chair Barbara Buckley in two weeks. During a budget crisis. And he hasn’t spoken to Bill Raggio since last Friday.
Gibbons attended a meeting with legislators the DAY BEFORE calling a special session in which Sheila Leslie presented a very concrete plan to possibly eliminate half of the total budget shortfall. I guess Gibbons forgot about Leslie’s idea.
Instead of chastizing everyone else, it’s long past time for Gibbons to demonstrate some real leadership. Real leadership includes admitting when you’ve made a mistake, or admitting that you aren’t equipped to handle your job and step down.
