BlogHer, Women, Media, and Jennifer L. Pozner

I’ll write more about BlogHer when I have time because between the marketing, networking, session-attending, trying to get my in room internet connection to work, and partying, I just don’t have a lot of it (time).  But I did just want to mention a few people I’ve met who have already made a difference in my life.  I’ve met people from Essence Magazine, The Center for Independent Media, SeaWorld San Diego (mommy blogger outreach!), and bloggers like Grace Nikae (concert pianist who lives in Madrid!) and Sandra VarnerPowerBaby took me out for sushi while we discussed business among other things.  Yum.  But by far the most exciting thing that has happened to me so far was spending the evening with Jennifer L. Pozner of Women In Media and News and its group blog. For those of you who don’t know about Jennifer Pozner, she has made it her personal mission to change the media narrative about women, and change the way the media treats women.  She spends her time taking on the likes of Joe Scarborough and Bill O’Reilly, print  journalists, and reality TV in order to tell Americans how they are getting it wrong (and they are getting it wrong for the most part).  She even helps people out with the practical stuff like how to write a protest letter. It’s a thankless job to be sure, but someone’s got to do it and we are lucky that Pozner is.  So you can imagine how tickled I was to spend my evening talking to Pozner about what she does, what I should do, reality TV, and dating.  It doesn’t get much better than drinking free margaritas at Ruby Skye with someone who works everyday to change the world for the better.

Imagine putting up with this kind of behavior day in and day out.

It was indeed a pleasure to attend the BlogHer Conference and hang out with great women like Myrna the Minx. Such a powerful networking platform and women from all over gathered in beautiful San Francisco to discuss ways to reach new heights.

I look forward to growing with BlogHer and its network of women doing wonderful things.

Thanks for the shout out Myrna!
