The Funny Thing, Rape Isn’t Funny

Damn, this is rough. Kind of like a scarlet letter except funnier. Anjeannette certainly seems to have taken it well, and I guess it could’ve been worse. The local press might’ve been forced to wear the Reno 911 badges.

One commenter made an astute observation:

This would be like putting a picture on the Mississippi press credentials tag of a trailer park, pregnant woman with a cigarette in her hand, and a man holding a bottle of JD and a pit bull. Sure people will laugh, but only at the expense of the locals. And if it was so clever and funny, why not give the same press tag to ALL members of the media, including local media?

But what this really made me think about is how mean McCain’s humor is in general as Ben Smith from Politico among other recently documented. There’s the joke he told in front of a reporter from the Tucson Citizen during his 1986 Senate campaign about the women raped repeatedly by a gorilla:

“Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, ‘Where is that marvelous ape?’”

Or how about this one about a teenage Chelsea Clinton:

“Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?” “Because her father is Janet Reno.”

And of course there was the bomb Iran joke that some people besides nazi-feminists like me didn’t take to well.

As the campaign goes on, I find it harder and harder to believe that John McCain is a nice man. He and his campaign (which arguably takes on the personality of it’s candidate) grow more petulant, grumpy, and just plain mean seemingly by the day. And when I remember that McCain called his wife a cunt in front of members of the press because she made a comment about his balding head, well, it’s impossible. I don’t want a man who treats his wife that way in public to be president because I can only imagine that he treats her even worse in private.

How did Bill Clinton treat his wife while in office? Actions speak LOUDER than words!

Yep, Clinton cheated on his wife and that’s extremely disrespectful, So did McCain.

Anyway, the point was, his campaign is mean and so is he. I don’t want a mean president.

Maybe thats what this country needs is a mean president. I don’t want a compasionate president who has to command 2 wars, possibly a third with Iran. I want the enemy to be affraid of the U.S. again. Alqida already thinks we are weak and Obama will continue to show the weakness. Obama wants to talk with the enemy, I want the enemies head on a stick. Maybe if you watch the videos of the towers falling and people jumping from the towers, you’ll agree. You negotiate with people NOT ANIMALS!!!!!

I think we’ve had a mean president for 8 years. Bush is more passive aggressive about it–Cheney is another mean SOB. They are the reason we have been fighting the wrong war for four years–incompetently to boot thanks to their bully boys Bremer and Rumsfeld. The terrorists are in Afghanistan and Pakistan–not in Iraq. Their massive misuse of our massive resources has been a complete disaster. They squandered the goodwill of the Iraqi people–the goodwill we had during the first six months of the occupation. And we aren’t even talking about all the other damage they’ve done to law and order in this country is criminal. Country before party is a joke to them.

Time for a change.

I understand your views but obama is not change for the good. Obama will be another Jimmy Carter that will create even more extreme terrorists. Myrna, I can safely say you have no right to say what the Iraqi good will feelings are untill you go to Iraq and ask them yourself. After spending 2 tours there, I can safely say that they thanked us for getting sadam out and love the U.S. for it. They have no ill will. Thats what the liberal media wants you to know. What I saw on T.V. and in person are complete opposite. You better get better resources if you want a respectful blog.

and the demorats always put country before party? Thats a joke.

Obama will be our next President. It’s time for something different for this country and the world. The Bush administration has been a travesty of justice in many ways.

BTW, did you notice that McCain’s ad only had female celebs in it? McCain must hate women.

Writing a little something about that next in fact

Bugsy, I hope you can branch out to do more than trolling. Give examples, be specific. Then we can have an actual discussion. I provided with some material to work with in my comment and this is what you contribute? It doesn’t seem worth your time.

OHHH ok myrna. I guess My experience with the Iraqi people isn’t facts but your out of touch resources is. I don’t see facts on your end. Just because you believe it dosn’t make it factual. Your medical marijuana is making you delusional.

I was referring to your last comment which consisted of the following: “and the demorats always put country before party? Thats a joke.” Give examples so commenters actually have something to engage with.

And if you want to be respected for your experience with the Iraqi people, we need to know what that is. I don’t believe you’ve ever mentioned it. As a soldier? Contractor? Advisor? I’m interested in that.

Believe it or not, The demorats was a typo. I truly did forget the “c”. An example of how they put party before country is this; The democrats tried to have the supreme court overturn the 2nd amendment of the constitution regarding the right to bear arms. That is one of the most important admendments that founded this great country, and field polls show (both liberal polls and conservative polls) found that the MAJORITY of the people want that amendment in tact. But that dosn’t fit with the democrat agenda, therefor it went back to the supreme court for review disregarding what the PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES want. Thank god the supreme court upheld it. That is just one example of many but im not going to type all night giving further examples. Now don’t start calling me a gun nut because im not. Infact, I dont like them because I have seen what it does to people. But that dosn’t give me the right wanting to take them away from people who do and the MAJORITY of people who want them. And to answer your second question, Im a reserve in the marines, served 2 tours and soon a third with no complaints.

There is no evidence anywhere that Democrats as a party are seeking to overturn any constitutional amendment, 2 or otherwise. Are you referring to the recent ruling on the Washington DC handgun ban? That was a city government, supported by law enforcement, not any arm of the Democratic party.

An interesting aside, the original intent of the 2nd Amendment was to make sure that militias, made up of volunteer private citizens.

For interested folks, read the posts on the SCOTUS blog about gun ban cases: http://www.scotusblog.com/wp/?s=handgun+ban

Bugsy, its interesting because it clearly is part of the Republican platform to restrict and further regulate contraception and abortion. I think the Democratic platform advocates for gun control but not for the overturning of the 2nd amendment. If regulation is acceptable for some things like abortion, why not for guns as well?

The evidence is Nancy Pelosi almost crying on t.v. talking about how disapointed she was on the ruling and the hard work the democrats put in (featured on cnn), chuck shcumer, a written statement by Ted Kennedy, barbra boxer….thats just a few. evidence enough? The people who want to continue to have guns are the ones who want them to protect themselves from people who are not responsible with guns. No law is going to keep a person from getting a gun. The people also know that the justice system probably wont protect them because if somebody is convicted of a gun crime, some compasionate libral will want rehabilitation rather than strict punishment. And on the other topic I wish Roe v Wade and the abortion topic will stop. This country has bigger issues.I am very conserative but I am pro choice.(not a typo, yes, I said Pro choice) The MAJORITY of people have voted for pro choice and it should stay. Once again, a few judges is going against the vote of the majority and trying to overturn the will of the people. The people make law, not a few judges (liberal or conservative)

Myrna.. I want to make sure you understand me before you accuse me of being some hard core republican who you mention ” put party before country”. As you already know, I am a Republican that believes in a strong Military, fiscal responsibility, pro business, capital punishment, etc. but I do believe in some democrat views like pro choice, envoirmental issues and pollution. (but I do believe the globe is warming but it is not man made like what al Gore wants me to believe)I just want a cleaner, healthier world. And taxing everyone equally on their income. I didn’t like Bush as a president but I did vote for him becase our other canidates were not any better. I believe we had not had a good republican President since Reagan and the Last democrat president since Kennedy. Just like our last election, Im not excited regarding both Mccain and Obama. I will have to vote for the least worst just like last time. Im sorry to say I feel that Obama is the worst of the two.

This is better. Again, I think gun control is what you’re talking about, not overturning the 2nd amendment. No American politician is crazy enough to even propose that in a serious way. I think the NRA just needs to stop freaking people out about that. As I understand it, the new case is to allow semi-automatic handguns for in home.

Anyway, I will say that for you to say that an issue that effects more than half the population of this country DIRECTLY, is not important issue is a problem, but women are used to that. I wish it would stop too, but until religious groups and conservative republicans stop chipping away at it, I won’t stop defending it.

Let me ask you this–why was Reagan such a good president? I think for most Republicans he is little more than a myth–someone to call up so you can win a presidential nomination. He talked a big talk with the Soviet Union–big whoop. He is the one who first used the Religious Right as his cudgel and began the division of this country in earnest. Drives me nuts.

On Iraq. I received enough information from my highly place contact in the CPA in Iraq who was in Iraq for the first 6 months of the occupation. He worked directly with Iraqis at all levels–it was very optimistic until the administration made mistakes that only incompetent–non military people would make. Disbanding the Iraq army–guns and all, not taking out Al Sadr when the had their first chance. They made these mistakes because they did not listen to the military or the state department. Iraq became what it is now because of the Bush Administration’s incompetence. They grew thousands of terrorists with their torture at Guantanomo and Abu Grahib. Bush and his administration have created more terrorists in the last four years then there were in total before the occupation began. How is more of the same going to help? The war must move to where the terrorists are–Afghanistan and Pakistan. McCain is saying whatever he needs to get elected–he’s lost whatever good judgment he ever had (and I’m not sure he ever had any), and will fight Vietnam all over again. It ridiculous–like living in a time warp. He is ill-informed and uses the troops in a way that I find despicable.
