New Organizing Institute and WomenCount Panel

When I can find enough bandwidth to upload my videos, I will post them. My gracious family friend Elaine is not only letting me crash at her pad, she also happened to have an extra flip camera laying around so I’m trying my hand at video documentation with no editing what so ever (takes too much time). So, I make no promises of quality, but, well, at some point, you will get to see some videos.

I finally arrived at the Big Tent this morning at about 9:30 after breakfast with a few WIPT ladies (Women in Politics and Technology). It’s fair to say that the Big Tent is full of a sort of happy chaos–they just fed my lunch so I can’t complain–and I was happy to see that most of my anxieties about power were unnecessary. After breakfast I attended the New Organizing Institute’s panel on media accountability that included Jehmu Green from WomenCount at the Big Tent Denver. Other cool sister’s there: Shireen Mitchell of WomenWiredIn.com, Lisa Witter of She Spot and Fenton Communications, Jill Foster from Utterz, and many more fabulous men and women. It was an inspiring discussion about how to organize women–especially young women. It’s still a mystery to most why many women can’t seem to separate Hillary Clinton from feminism, as if she encompasses all feminism represents. I came out of the discussion determined to write a blog post/editorial about media treatment of first ladies. Just quickly, look at the difference between the portrayals of Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush–the media hasn’t done either of them justice.
