Did Fred Thompson Accuse Obama of Negligent Homicide In His RNC Speech?
Honestly, I didn’t have anything to say about the Republican National Convention itself until I read the text of Fred Thompson’s speech. Thompson seemed to rally the troops a bit as they say, but right in the middle of his speech, Thompson accused Obama of not wanting to protect newborn babies:
“And we need a President who doesn’t think that the protection of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade.”
What exactly does that mean? Obama doesn’t believe in protecting “a newly born baby?” Is Thompson accusing Obama of negligent homicide? It’s clear that Thompson is referencing abortion by saying that Obama doesn’t believe in protecting “the unborn,” it’s code for murder. If you carry that same meaning over to the “newly born” Thompson is implying that Obama believes in the murder of the “newly born” as well as the “unborn.” The dialogue about abortion has become increasingly more unhinged over time, but it’s simply unbelievable that anyone would say that, especially during one of the most watched televised event of the year. It’s beyond disgusting. What were RNC officials and the McCain campaign thinking by allowing such a thing to be said by anyone during their event? Where do we draw the line on political speech? Could Thompson be sued for libel because the speech was also produced as a written document I wonder? I don’t know that I want to encourage any lawsuits but saying something like that during a nationally televised speech is reprehensible. Is the press going to let Thompson and the RNC get away with that kind of public statement?

Right out of the Karl Rove playbook, which is actually nothing more than Rove crossing out the late Lee Atwater’s name on the cover and putting his beside it in ugly black crayon. The only question is whether or not enough people have had enough of it.
I noticed that ‘pay grade’ comment tonight also and thought it in poor taste the way he said it. However, he was almost quoting Obama. I don’t remember where, but Obama did say “above my pay grade” in reference to a question about his position on abortion (or maybe the question was about Roe vs Wade and not specifically abortion?). I recall that when I heard Obama answer that way (perhaps at one of the debates?) that I thought it unsatisfactory but he did effectively deflect the question at that time.

OMG! Eulogy or endorsement?
Is it just me or did Fred Thompson refered to McCain so often in the past tense that it almost intimated he’s dead! Was this a eulogy or an endorsement speech? Has the nomination of Palin aided in telegraphing the parties sentiments of McCains campaign? It can only get more interseting from here.
Apparently, you haven’t followed the news on Obama too well. This has been a huge sticking point among pro-lifers opposition to Obama. He’s perceived as being more pro-choice than NARAL. He prevented a Born Alive Protection law from being voted on in Illinois. You can see all you need with a simple google search for . The National Right to Life Committee has on what happened. NARAL supported the Federal version of the same law. That’s why people are saying that Obama is more radical on abortion than even NARAL.
Oops. I didn’t do the anchors properly.
Here’s National Right to Lifes information.
What I heard was
“Barack Obama, “The Messiah”, apparently thinks being a prophet is above his pay grade! And that’s why he’s for killin’ babies. God has spoken to all of us, and we know that life begins the moment the man knows his bedroom eyes are workin and he’s gonna get some!”
Ain’t coded speech grand?
That is because of Obama’s response at the Saddleback Civil Forum where instead of instantly parroting the answer the audience wanted to hear to the question of “At what point does human life begin” Obama said something to the effect of “Knowing that exact moment is above my pay grade” and then went on for a little bit about reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies and reducing the number of abortions.
John McCain, without even thinking, said “At Conception!” as if his life depended on it, which, considering the audience, was a smart political move. Nevermind giving up an opportunity to demonstrate critical thinking and spiritual meditation - if the pundits and Fred Thompson are to be believed, that’s not particularly important when addressing a crowd at a megachurch.
Basicly, Obama said that being a theologian and medical scientist was above his pay grade. With that statement, he addressed the central issue. Does conception denote the beginning of not only a new soul but of a complete human being? My own understanding is that the “incarnation” of a soul (or alignment of a soul with the neurology of the human form) fully occurs in the late terms of a pregnancy.
But, that’s one pov. Many Christians say the soul is created at conception (and thus so is the complete human being). So, essentially Obama was saying this question was above his pay grade to answer.
Yes, Thompson knowingly libeled and slandered Obama. Obama voted against that bill simply because Illinois law ALREADY covered the type of unfortunate event that happened with that aborted late term baby surviving. The McCain campaign is banking on lying as it’s chief tool. That and a process akin to manipulating photographic imagery. For example, they have had ads up saying Obama’s going to raise your taxes. Since most of the “yous” out there reading this make under $250,000/year, in fact your taxes will be going downk under Obama AND MORE SO THAN WITH McCAIN!
I am so unbelievably used to politicians lying as frequently as they breathe. They’re generally not normal people, you know. I mean, we now have an aging Presidential candidate suddenly making a late life career change, to that of screenwriter/producer/director!! Look for the winter release about this interesting young woman from Alaska, who out of nowhere, ends up sitting at that desk in the Oval Office!! I’d go see THAT movie.
Obama’s got this amazing center of gravity….and the aura of being a very normal person! (I enjoyed about 10 hours of close viewing of him, about two of that in a small semi private setting.) I’m looking forward to learning more about Sarah Palin. She sounds like an interesting person.
She might even be somewhat normal, like Obama! Don’t know anything about her yet. But, we sure do know a lot now about Obama. (I would say his statements re: Palin’s family essentially revealed the very Heart of Obama’s character, right?)
