There’s Nothing Wrong with Sarah Palin Except Her Policy Positions
I’ll be the first to admit two things. First, some liberals do have the tendency to dismiss rural politicians like Sarah Palin as if they are country bumpkins not worthy of our notice almost as often as some conservatives imply that liberal Democratic candidates are either effeminate or elitist. Second, Sarah Palin is a talented and savvy politician and deserves to be congratulated for being selected by John McCain to serve as his running mate. Palin comes from pioneering western stock just like me. Perhaps her great great grandmother also walked her way west, hiking over the Sierra Nevada mountains in pushing her husband and children on to what they hoped would be a better life like mine. Western women are strong. Whether they want to or have to, they chop wood, hunt deer, drive tractors, milk cows, paddle kayaks, hike mountains–you name it–they do it. Sarah Palin, a working mom, is raising her family just like any other working mom would. And I don’t know about you, but working moms know how to multi-task, budget, manage time, and prioritize projects better than most CEOs. The U.S. would be a much better place with more working moms in office. There is nothing wrong with Sarah Palin–except for her positions on issues that effect families–otherwise known as “family values.”
On The Environment
Republicans believe in exploiting our nation’s national resources rather than protecting them and Palin is no different. Palin wants to drill for oil in protected wilderness. She is in favor of aerial hunting and against protecting polar bears. Palin does not believe that global warming exists or in preserving the Alaskan wilderness and the polar bears who live there–protected because, as a nation, we want our children to see be able to see polar bears in their natural habitat 50 years from now if they wish.
On Education
Plain believes in forcing her idea of education onto your family which means that creationism is taught in science class, violating one of our Founding Fathers’ most valued beliefs–that religion should be separated from the state for the protection of both.
On Women’s Health
Palin is against the personal freedom that reproductive choice provides. She is anti-choice (pro-government enforced pregnancy) even in cases of rape and incest and does not believe women should have access to contraception.
Like most conservative Republicans, Palin does not believe that government should provide protection for its citizens (environmental regulation, consumer protection, worker’s rights, medicare and social security), nor does she believe in supporting the empowerment of its citizens through respected institutions like the public education system, the public transportation system, and the court system. What American can achieve all that the American Dream promises without the support and protection the government provides? What American can achieve all that the American Dream promises without the support of one’s family and community? We are all connected as Obama proclaimed and we better start voting and governing like it:
“If there’s a child on the south side of Chicago who can’t read, that matters to me, even if it’s not my child. If there’s a senior citizen somewhere who can’t pay for her prescription and has to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it’s not my grandmother. If there’s an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties. It’s that fundamental belief — I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sister’s keeper — that makes this country work. It’s what allows us to pursue our individual dreams, yet still come together as a single American family. “E pluribus unum.” Out of many, one.”
In her heart, Sarah Palin would agree with Obama, but in her policies, she does not. She agrees with John McCain most of the time, and when she doesn’t she is even more conservative than McCain and our Democracy is not served well by their politics.

You’re not a real Western Woman unless you know how to race a snow machine.
Palin is absolutely straight forward and in your face. Thats what we need. She is not saying what you want to hear but what you need to hear. She has a “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” attitude. Example: selling the private jet to lower taxes. Thats what we need.
She is pro-choice when it comes to womans right, I assure you. Pay attention. She is against abortion for the fact that it is against her religious views. She is 100% for the womans right to abstane, use birth control, surgically manipulte their own body any way a woman wants to as long as it does not me killing a baby.
And now the National Enquirer is reporting that she had an affair with her husband’s business partner……. Consider ing that they were dead-on with Edwards, this is even bigger trouble.
I now make the prediction that that not only will the R’s lose badly, but that Palin will become so addicted to publicity that after the election, she’ll hit reality TV (especially once she gets kicked out of office in Alaska for her ethics breach in trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired), and maybe even pose for Playboy. Don’t worry, they can fix anything.
I am a Republican and voted for McCain to be the main nominee for the Republican party. However, deep down I know this country has serious problems(many experts in different areas say we are nearing some tipping points) and we need a leader to do bold choices and changes for the USA to get back in track and prosperous as it was. I think Palin was a surprise as McCain’s pick, I give her credit for having experience as a governor and a woman (like myself). I think it was a wise move by McCain to pick her since he wants to do offshore drilling yes? I am a Christian but I think this election I may vote for Obama. I know several Christians who are not voting Republican this time. Obama seems to care about education, health care, the environment, getting us out of Iraq which is costing billions and getting us more in debt(China is our banker and has trillions of reserves),etc.
Andy, uh, no on the women’s reproductive health issues.
It’s really too bad she fibbed so many times in that speech because I want to like her. Her speech delivery was fantastic.
Nice to hear from you Blanca. Being Republican isn’t synonymous with being Christian or with “family values.” Most people in both parties have those.
Wow, that was a whole LOT of lying and misrepresentation last night! McCain should at least get a nomination for Best Screenplay. Sure no one will argue with me on that.
This is going to be a very interesting movie. Now, if Sally Field DOES end up in the White House, though, there will be more blockbuster movies, but these will be in the Horror category. I think Sally has Tom Cruise eyes, exhibiting a mind of intense certainty about things. That’s a serious warning signal!
I just saw the Palin Bikini Photo! WOW!
I say we nominate McCain for Best Screenplay, Best Movie and
Palin for Best Actress!!
All of us? We’re extras in some movie. (Or, we’re all dead and playing out this drama on some weird afterlife bardo.)
Concerning the environment and energy policy…Palin is dead on correct. Polar Bears are not endangered and anthropogenic global warming is not occurring…at least on the scale that you are inferring. Oil/gas exploration and development can be done in a much friendlier fashion today. Come on…do your homework instead of blindly believing blithering eco propaganda from the left side. Believe me, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne’s decision to list the polar bear as threatened under the Endangered Species Act has nothing whatsoever to do with saving this animal for you or your grandchildren…but everything to do with political and economic control.

Wow, I didn’t even know she had policy positions. From the text of her speech I thought her main policy position was that slinging insults and being snarky means your are serving your country.
Concerning DirtyPenny’s disbelief of anthropogenic global warming:
The United Nations has stated that evidence is now ‘unequivocal’ that global warming is being caused by humans.
If there is some strong scientific evidence that is contrary to this well researched position, I would love to see it. Thanks.
it’s jb’s disbelief. not mine.
Oops, sorry DirtyPenny…
Sarah is a wolf killing bitch. She nothing about environmental regardless of what she claims. She has sanctioned the Aerial hunting of wolves and different species of bear in the government protected wildlife refuges. These animals pose no threat to humans. Native Alaskans have voted twice now to stop this barbarick act of violence against their wildlife. Oh FYI Grizzly and Wolves are still covered under the endangered species act. Her biologists pulled 12 wolf cubs out their den and shot each one in the back of the head. Saying this was the humane thing to do because both the Mother and Father wolves had been murdered by Aerial hunters in the days preceding this horrendous act. So you talk you want about how qualified she is for the job of future V.P. she is not qualified to be the president of a PTA group. Let alone the V.P. of the united states.

There is no reason to call Palin names and it doesnt help your cause. Stick to the facts.
