Why McCain Is Hiding And Why Sarah Palin Is Not My Gal
This is going to be the last post I wrote about Sarah Palin until she makes more news herself. The McCain Campaign is successfully using Paling to distract voters from the real issues McCain does not want to talk about–the Iraq War/Occupation, the economy, his energy policy (besides drill, drill, drill), his foreign policy, etc. I look forward to Palin’s future interaction with the press. I think it’s a shame that McCain thinks so little of his running mate that he doesn’t allow Palin to speak to the press unless he (or his advisers rather) decide it’s okay. Creepy.
Sarah Palin is not my gal because she thinks the US is in Iraq serving a mission from God. This is not a person I want anywhere near the White House. Nor do I want the person who picked Sarah Palin as their running mate to be anywhere near the White House. John McCain needs to stop using Palin as a shield. Real men and real women do not hide behind anyone or anything.
Add your voice to the 40,000 or so women behind Women Against Sarah Palin. You can also add your video response to the Not My Gal video campaign. I did.

I agree with you. Putting McCain/Palin in office is a step backwards. Those against not only one but all three, sex education, stem cell research and Choice is another reason to be scared.
It is my greatest fear (at least at this moment in time) that these 2 clowns will win the election. I’m mentally preparing myself if they do win, but I have to admit I will be heartbroken. I’m so tired of the Republican Party and their never-ending pandering to the lowest common denominator, their fear mongering, their lies, and their games (McCain’s deperate attempts to lure women voters w/ Palin is offensive). Sure, the Democrats aren’t perfect either (what politician is?), but McCain/Palin will serve to aid the U.S.’s deep decent into a deeply nationalistic, devoutly pious, and increasingly isolationist nation.
“Sarah Palin is not my gal because she thinks the US is in Iraq serving a mission from God.”
Please please please get your facts straight. You have succumbed to the liberal media and the editing of the Associated Press.
According to the AP, Sarah Palin said this about the troops while at church:
“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,”
According to real life, Sarah Palin said this about the troops while at church (with the AP’s selective quoting underlined):
“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them out on a task that is from God,”
The AP quote means “Iraq is a mission from God.”
The actual quote means “We pray Iraq is a mission from God.”
The headline is even more misleading.
Palin: Iraq war ‘a task that is from God’
The AP not only doesn’t mention the previous sentence, or the first part of the sentence they quote, they also essentially ignore the meaning of the very next sentence as well. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”
This is a statement of humble reflection from Palin. To translate into terms the media might understand, its “I hope we’re doing the right thing.”
This story is bad enough that the AP really should issue a correction on it, if not a full retraction. There’s no story unless you butcher the quote. It’s based on half (or a quarter) of a quote, mentally ignoring the previous and following sentences, and even presenting the trimmed quote as the start of a sentence –forcing them to capitalize a word that actually appeared in the middle of the sentence.
Really bad.
I’m amazed that you don’t support a woman candidate. I’m hoping they win and McCain’s ticker gives out. Then we’ll finally have a real woman in the White House who cares about women’s rights. Obama called her a pig. Who wants a sexist man in the White House who has no experience running anything larger than a community group. Sarah balanced a 16 billion dollar budget and is charge of the National Guard who is in visible sight of Russia. Obama has done nothing while a Senator, why should I believe he will actually do anything as Prez.
Sorry Obama, you lost me at “Pig”.
Wow Roberta,
Maybe you should get your facts straight! If you call her support, for women’s rights, I’m going to have to go backwards to burn the bra.
As for “Pig” whoa, I do believe McCain used it first last year talking about Hillary’s economics. Hmmmmm.
Go back to reading the Esquire, Fox news and only hear some of the conversation you want to hear.
Roberta,
Are you really this dumb or are you just having a laugh at our expense? This woman isn’t for women’s rights. She believes is limiting the rights of all U.S. citizens, including women! As for the “pig” comment, you can make almost anything seem like something else if you take it out of context. I do not believe that comment was a direct attack on Palin. This woman is a dangerous extremist with no real credentials for the job at hand, not to mention a shady past that hints at just how unethical and power-hungry she really is.
Roberta, I am paraphrasing what Palin at a different event in a church at Wasallia, not her speech to the troops on 9/11.
I support women candidates who are beyond competent, who doesn’t sneer at people who have worked hard to get the best education possible and people who work as community organizers as if those are terrible things–those are the most American values I can think of–education and service. I support women and men who are true feminists that support feminist issues. Sarah Palin is none of those things.
Come on Myrna. The quote about God is wrong. “I’m paraphrasing” is weak. Put the quote up. She meant she was praying that what we were doing was what God planned. Oops. I said she meant. I mean she SAID that. It’s almost as if you believed another book banning email or something.
Here are the comments I was paraphrasing. It was reported over a week ago–hardly NOT common knowledge at this point. And the building gas pipelines is God’s will too. “Our national leaders are sending them out on a task from God” Watch the video.

“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task from God” Roberta’s explanation doesnt change the facts or the implication. She also said building the pipeline was God’s will too. She’s nutty, and you’re tiresome. Watch the video.

Watched it. And it’s exactly what I thought it was. Read this: http://volokh.com/posts/1220914092.shtml
You’re twisting the meaning. The explanation is there.
If Palin wanted to say “pray for the safety of our troops,” okay, but she didn’t. I read the exact quote before posting this days ago and it didnt make a damn bit of difference to me then and it doesn’t now. Nations do not do God’s will and never should. It’s not appropriate for a politician to say that and I don’t want politicians who think that in office with authority over troops. Every fucking war in the world that wasn’t started for economic reasons was started for religious reasons.
You’re choosing to not understand the context of the quote. You’re completely wrong here. You won’t die if you admit that.
I understand and agree with you about God and politicians. But that doesn’t make it okay to continue to misrepresent what she said. You lack any credibility if you can’t admit you were wrong. You’ll fit in perfectly as a political pundit, just so you know.
No, you’re choosing not to understand the context as I see it. I don’t know why I continually try and explain things to you only to have you never get it. Its like your fundamental misunderstanding of Dewey’s ideas about Democracy pointed out by one of your journalism professors last year. I think silence is once again the best policy. I’m tired of the whole concern troll thing.
Except your context is misguided and wrong. You can’t handle that, and it makes you look stupid and stubborn.
You know, I looked back at what David Ryfe said about Dewey. It was two years ago, and about 4 weeks into my crash course in his philosophy (among other things) that we referred to as boot camp in the program. I was a newbie, plain and simple. And I wasn’t far off. I interpreted it that way and still believe I was right to a degree. Not completely, but it’s simply one interpretation, and David’s explanation taught me something. I learned from it, which is the ultimate goal. For you to pull that out as some sort of show of dominance is uninformed. Your stubbornness here is tantamount to lying. You refuse to accept a logical explanation as plausible because you just know better. As someone who has been a critic of President Bush, you sure are just like him. And calling me a troll because I came in here with evidence to help you better understand why you are wrong shows you really can’t handle criticism. You’re weak, and that’s sad for such a strong woman.
