The Buckley Proposal: Nevada State Democrats Showing Leadership
Since no one else seems interested in exhibiting any leadership regarding Nevada’s economy, Speaker Barbabra Buckley has stepped up to the plate in a big way. Buckley is organizing state Democrats to undertake an ambitious process to overhaul the state financial structure. The project is called Nevada 2020 and Buckley is taking the show on the road to give citizens a chance to voice their opinions about what should be done to create a future for this state. From Buckley’s press release:
“As I have talked to people all across the state, I am finding tremendous support for the idea of overhauling our financial structure,” Buckley said. “Nevadans everywhere seem to recognize that the budget cuts being proposed by the Governor are totally unacceptable, that we can do better and that we need a fundamental change in the way our state operates.”
The first town hall will be held on Monday, September 29, at 5:30 p.m. at Spring Valley High School in Las Vegas. A Reno town hall is scheduled for October 6.

Read the presentation on the website: Overhauling Nevada’s Financial Structure: The Buckley Proposal. It does a good job of outlining the situation we face as our state budget dwindles. Buckely advocates adopting a strategic approach to the state budget. Imagine that. Read the plan and attend the town hall to discuss the six questions outlined in the Buckley Proposal.

A key element I was looking for was the creation of new revenue sources, which she addresses on page 39. What she identifies is a good one and hopefully one soon to manifest.
But, that’s not good enough. I looked at the size of the
various sources of revenue and was stunned. I have a plan
that could raise a lot more money than many of those sources.
In fact, if it was already in play, we would not only have
had NO deficit worries last year, we would be on the road
of improving the quality of health care services. Which
right now inflicts incredibly indignities and disrespect
on people. My proposal would at least erase the simply
unbelievable disrespect our lawmakers have demonstrated to
a large class of patients. As well as raise a ton of money
directly for the state.
Of course, your article was posted before the “end”.
Buckley’s proposal means absolutely nothing anymore. We all will be beginning to soon adapt to a new world, so to speak.
How many of you fellow boomers took good notes when listening to the elders talk about the Depression Days.
I think my (Great) Aunt Effie had it right: “People should not be living beyond their means!”
Bernie Anderson in his presentation at Java Jungle yesterday suggested a 2 1/2 % tax on beer. Great idea!
The state should sell marijuana to patients who are suffering. Grow it and sell it and put the profits into the
general fund. Concurrent with this proposal is elimination oof all that crazy paperwork with the Dept. Of Agriculture
and the obscene fees. Obama in mid May said he would end ALL
federal interference with suffering patients getting their
medicine. Think about it: it’s obscene that folks can easily fill their prescriptions for very, very dangerous
drugs like vicodin, percodan, etc. As a nurse, I have
treated people undergoing detox from those extremely
dangerous drugs. Not a pretty picture. Marijuana is far
superior to these drugs. To quote my doctor: “We need
to get that stuff out there.”
Someday I may get up the nerve to lobby for this.
Failing that, I just might take up a new vocation, akin
to what Johnny Appleseed did!!!
If you want a guareenteed source of huge amts of money coming
in every year: adopt my plan
