Sarah Palin’s Donations to Planned Parenthood Top $1 Million!

Although she might not know it, or know why, thousands of women across the United States have donated over $1 million dollars to Planned Parenthood in Sarah Palin’s name in one of the most effective grassroots protest I’ve seen in a long time Here’s the press release from 9-27-08 detailing the previous donation total of over $800,000–there’s no press release announcing the new total yet. You heard it hear first. The protest began as an informal email campaign, a suggestion really, that women could send a message to the country that women do not appreciate being the target of a condescending political campaign. Almost 32,000 individual donors from all 50 states have told the Republican Party emphatically that reproductive choice is an essential campaign issue for them.

The latest news is that song writer Gretchen Peters is donating all of the royalties from her song “Independence Day” to Planned Parenthood in Sarah Palin’s name. The song is about domestic violence and Peters was moved to do this after the song was used to introduce Palin at the vice presidential debate. Peters is encouraging her fans to follow her lead and donate to Planned Parenthood in Palin’s name.

This is awesome. It will be much better when McCain and Palin lose. McCain’s “Hail Mary” pass failed and in effect made a Pro-Choice organization much stronger is classic politics. If Obama wins, perhaps we should thank Palin for helping out?

What a worthy cause. I know she has inspired me to give to PP and Obama.

I love this, because it’s productive *and* sends a message at the same time. It also contrasts nicely with the negative tone set by Palin this week – you don’t have to be hateful to make a point.
Makes me proud.
