After The Debate, Let’s Talk about Real Voter Fraud: Voter Suppression
The list of Republican voter suppression efforts is LONG. That’s what makes their hysterical outrage over a few bad apples who fraudulently registered Mickey Mouse and Tony Romo while working for ACORN utterly laughable. Or maybe not, because who knows more about the damage that can be done Republicans know quite a bit about voter suppression, and even voter fraud (as opposed to voter registration fraud), and the damage it can cause. Voter suppression has been a favored Republican tactic to win elections–stated famously and clearly by Paul Weyrich in 1980:

“Many of our Christians have what I call the goo-goo syndrome – good government. They want everybody to vote. I don’t want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of people, they never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down.”
How does the GOP do it? Purging voter rolls, adding , and . Who do they target? People who are least likely to vote for them–the working poor and minorities.
