McCain Mocks Women’s Health During Debate
Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, is pregnancy not a health issue for women? Is contraception not a health issue for women? Is family planning not a women’s health issue? McCain interrupted Obama as he was trying to discuss the importance of reducing unplanned and unwanted pregnancies when McCain interrupted him to belittle the issue of “women’s health.” Hair Flip to @Baratunde. Here’s the video:

Here’s another reason women and the men who love them should be concerned by a McCain presidency. Contraception could become a luxury if the Republicans have their way:
And this is just funny–the McCain Eye Roll

The issue could not have gone better. For Obama. I was watching CNN’s little graph thingy and McWhacko really, REALLY registered bad with women and men who happen to still support women’s rights.
And wasn’t there something in there that minorities have received all the educational opportunities they are going to get?
And I couldn’t help but wonder how McWhacko would handle a Kruschev or an Ayatollah Khomeni. We’d sure deplete our nuclear arms stockpile if he were Psycho-in-Chief II.
If McCain is elected, I’m taking stock out in vibrators, since we women can’t get off any other way without a baby!
Myrna,
I am so sorry that you think that McCain is not “for” women. Like many “Pro-Lifers”, McCain believes in the rights of the most innocent and defenseless of our society, that is, the Unborn!!! Not to undermine the importance of the health and well-being of women, but these unborn children have a “right to life” as well. The ones who are aborted “never” get to see the light of day as we adults do…I mean NEVER! And it’s all because someone else didn’t want them to, i.e., or didn’t want them period! I agree that a woman’s health is important as you do. However I do think that most mothers would “want” their child to live “instead” of them if the situation comes to life or death. I think if McCain had more time, he would have definitely said this himself…By the way, I’m saying this with a heart of love, not anger, just so you know…
Myrna,
One more thing, it’s a known fact that contraceptives are a definite health risk for women, which is another reason why McCain is against them. He believes in more “natural” methods for women when they want to have kids. Did you know that the crime and divorce rates have gone up since contraceptives have become more used and available? Obama wants to “reduce” unplanned pregnancies by the use of contraceptives!! What a scary thought!! Instead of encouraging abstinance, purity, less crime and holiness, he’s encouraging “more” sex crimes and more immorality for our country. And, not to mention more divorces. I definitely don’t think that that is going to “help” the problem, or even our country as a whole!!!
Chris - to my knowledge McCain hasn’t ever said any of the things you give him credit for. It wasn’t the time that stopped him, it was his disrespect for women who don’t conform to the GOP code. (Which is something like: holy sex to make babies in wedlock only, eh?)
And check your facts, dahling: Contraceptives have been around for ages, not just since the 50’s. While some contraceptives have side-effects, getting pregnant and delivering a baby carries far more health risks for women.
The divorce rate has been coming down since 1981 (msnbc). And the U.S. crime rate has come way down from its peak in 1991 (FBI).
And how in the world do you get from using medically proven ways to reduce unintended pregnancies (and therefore abortion) to sex crimes????
I admire that you worked to remain positive … I think you’d have an easier time convincing folks with a more realistic take on the matter.
Chris and Stephanie,
What about the “mothers” who are children themselves who cannot protect themselves?
What about the 9 year old that was raped by her mothers boyfriend and delivered a 6lb baby by C section when she was 10?
Is it fair for a child to have to endure this? Raped, not given pre natal care and who knows what mentally and physically what she went through?
Chris quotes “One more thing, it’s a known fact that contraceptives are a definite health risk for women, which is another reason why McCain is against them. He believes in more “natural” methods for women when they want to have kids”
I guess contraceptives were not used in the nine year olds case and I see nothing natural about being forced to have a baby due to rape for any woman!!!!
See one of the reason’s I support Obama’s words on birth control education and women’s health

Katrina-why am I , a liberal mother of one, (I stopped at perfection) who believes in birth control and had her husband fixed to confirm that, blocked in with Chris -obviously a right winged anti-choice zealot. I pretty much state McCain/Palin are not my kind-I am almost their worst nightmare, an educated, liberal minded, peace loving, enviromentalist who believes in gun control and gay rights-if I were a minority then I would be their worst nightmare. GO OBAMA!
Forgot to mention that Palin/McCain support abstinence only-obviously worked well for Palins family-The boyfriend just announced he was dropping out of high school to support his future family-way to go and burden the system. I love to see my point proven over and over!
Chris, so you don’t support abortion even in the case of rape an incest? BTW, I never said MCCain wasn’t “for women,” I said he isn’t support of “women’s health” although in general the Republican platform in general is not supportive enough of families, parents, or children as evidenced by their positions on support for education, pay equity, Head Start, etc. My next post if for you!
Stephanie, my mistake, I apologize.
so - today - received an email from public health dept. who was scheduled to do a workshop with our seniors that parent permission slips are not acceptable anymore - in addition must have administrator and/or teacher sign a document accepting “liability”? What’s up? such a political climate…Today’s studen news report - Mass. high school has decide to distribute condoms and the pill to student because they’ve had 17 pregnancies….
McCain’s Health Care Plan: Worse for Women, Worse for All of Us
by Mike Hall, Oct 6, 2008
A new study by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) looks at Sen. John McCain’s plan to tax your employer-provided health care on a state-by-state basis and estimates as many as 27 million of us could lose our work-based coverage under McCain’s tax plan. Two more recent reports look at other aspects of McCain’s health care plan, including its impact on women.
McCain’s health care tax could mean the loss of health care coverage for as many as 1.3 million Ohioans, 1.2 million Pennsylvanians, 1.1 million Floridians, 800,000 Virginians and nearly 600,000 Wisconsinites
