Voter Suppression Action Alert in North Carolina

If you know people in North Carolina, please help get the news out. The Voter Suppression Wiki has released it’s first action alert, for a voting problem in North Carolina. According to Chris Kromm at Facing South, as many as 40,000 votes for presidential candidates will be under counted because North Carolina’s straight ticket voting selection does not include a presidential candidate. Voters in North Carolina who want to vote a straight ticket should:

1. Vote for President,
2. Vote Straight ticket option
3. Flip the ballot over and vote for Judicial Contests and local non partisan contests.

Jon Pincus and Baratunde Thurston are advising people to email this information to people you know in North Carolina, post a comment on their Facebook wall, or post the link to your Facebook profile. As Jon Pincus notes:

Sure enough, when I posted my last blog to my feed and a couple of friend’s walls on Facebook, a couple of different people replied “thanks very much, I’ll send the message on.” That doesn’t sound like a heck of a lot, but if they reach out to their friends and family, and maybe mention it in their office, school, or church, it can have an impact. If you multiply this by the 125 people involved in the Voter Suppression Wiki — and whoever else reads any of our posts or forwarded email — it starts to really add up. So please, if you’re in North Carolina (or know people who do), help spread the word.

Just a reminder that the Voter Suppression Wiki is about increasing the number of people who vote and making sure their vote counts. If you want to help with future action alerts, visit the Voter Suppression Wiki and find out how you can help make sure the votes of all Americans count.
