Washoe County Democratic Inaugural Gala

Since I decided not to go to DC to attend the Inauguration, I did the next best thing.  I attended the Washoe County Democrat’s Inaugural Gala which was a great event.  Good food (especially dessert!), good wine, and good people.  I even wore my ball gown–where else am I going to be able to wear that in Reno? I also spotted a kilt and a few tuxes in the room.

I was lucky enough to spend some quality time with Pete and Jessica Sferrazza and ran into lots of other folks (Kate Marshall, Dave Aiazzi, Jim Gibbons (kidding!).  They replayed Obama’s Inaugural speech to the delight of everyone in the room, and later, after a little wine, many people enacted their own Inaugural parade. It was a great night with great company.  I have felt proud and lucky to be an American all day today.  It feels good doesn’t it?

One thing I learned tonight was that Mayor Cashell endorsed Obama, or at least that’s what Washoe Democrats Chair Chris Wicker announced to the crowd.  Funny, I don’t remember Cashell being a huge Obama supporter.  I wonder how Cashell explained that to John McCain?

I guess you can’t blame people for wanting to be on the winning team.  Well, except me and millions of others who couldn’t believe the nation voted to give George Bush another four years to screw more stuff up.
