Boehner: Republicans Are No Longer in the Business of Legislating
That title is almost an exact quote from remarks House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) made last week at the Republican retreat at The Homestead, a posh Virginia resort. The full quote is below. From the Politico last week:
Before Gingrich offered that somewhat surprising praise, Boehner reminded Republicans that they are no longer in the business of legislating and should focus almost solely on communicating their message with voters.
“We are in the communications business,” Boehner told the crowd during his opening remarks. “We can build a new Republican majority one issue at a time.”
Let me get this straight, Republican Representatives are no longer in the “business of legislating?” I wonder if their constituents, the ones who elected them to legislate on their behalf, are aware of this? Isn’t legislating a legislator’s job after all? I can’t believe such a bald admission of partisanship wasn’t treated like the heresy it is. Boehner basically told his colleagues that there are not going to the what they were elected to do–LEGISLATE.
He says this while Americans are freezing to death in their own homes or being turned out of them and the Republican strategy is to quit doing their job. Nice.
